Lewis County is located in Northeast Missouri. It is named for Meriwether Lewis, an American Explorer famous for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
The seat is Monticello and the largest city is Canton. The county is set onto the Mississippi River.
It borders Clark, Marion, Shelby, Knox Counties in Missouri; as well as Adams and Hancock Counties in Illinois.
Main highways through the county include US-61, MO-6, MO-81.
